Noche de 22 Estrellas: three tango orchestras play live through the night in Bremen
On Saturday, 8 May 2027, the Noche de 22 Estrellas — “Night of 22 Stars” — comes to Kulturkirche St. Stephani in Bremen. At this live milonga, three internationally renowned tango orchestras play in turn, tanda by tanda — all night long. Doors open at 19:00, the event begins at 20:00.
On stage are La Juan D’Arienzo and Romántica Milonguera from Buenos Aires, and Quinteto Beltango from Belgrade. La Juan D’Arienzo, with singer Fernando Rodas, stands for the driving pulse of tango de pista in the tradition of the “King of Rhythm”. Romántica Milonguera is regarded as the romantic voice of modern tango. Quinteto Beltango, a European ensemble, combines the tradition of tango with a signature of its own.
The evening is defined by its density of live music: the three orchestras take turns tanda by tanda, keeping the dance floor in motion throughout the night. The live brass band Lauter Blech provides the cortinas — the short transitions between tandas. For the closing finale, all the musicians play La Cumparsita together.
The venue is Kulturkirche St. Stephani, known for its acoustics, in Bremen’s Stephani quarter. The event is organised by Noche de 22 Estrellas GbR, run by Thomas Lotte and Catalina Lotte-Fooken, who operate Studio Libertango in Bremen and Oldenburg and have helped shape the northern German tango scene for years.
The format
Three complete orchestras in one night, taking over from one another live, tanda by tanda — a constellation rarely found in the European tango context. The Noche de 22 Estrellas is a dance night — a live milonga for experienced, active dancers, not a concert.
